After Ten Years

OLC 1000

I'm leading or co-leading 4 Bible studies a week in the Silom downtown area. Can you imagine 10 or 100 or even 1,000 Bible study groups throughout Bangkok and Thailand? Imagination is as faith does! No, I don't plan to lead 1,000 groups, but you can help me. I'm also open to partnering with other missionaries or organizations or just active Christians that would love to influence a small group of Thai professionals (or just Thais even) who can converse in English and want to study English through Bible studies. Pray about it. (You can see in the above photo-- thanks, Joe-- my missionary pose in the middle of Bangkok where luxury condos and malls going up are juxtaposed with the small, old buildings in the background of the slowly but steadily expanding skytrain system.)

Nepal v.2

Nepal still needs your help. We've stopped providing emergency relief aid. The world has forgotten about Nepal and moved on, even its own government started taxing relief supplies just one month after the earthquake. But our director in Nepal, Steve Lee, has started building a home for the needy children and families in Kathmandu. Please continue to pray for Nepal, that its government would allow Christians to love their neighbors as Christians, and for Global Hope to continue making an impact.

GP or GH or Not?

I can foresee myself juggling between GP and GH for maybe another year. But it would be maintenance work at best. Please pray with me as I consider choosing to focus on either traditional ministry such as Bible studies or nontraditional work such as development with GH. On a related note, I've informed my supervisors of my intention to adjust my status with GP from that of full membership to junior or associate (not sure about the exact English term); that way I'll be less involved with GP leadership and have more flexibility to focus on direct ministry activities. Depending on how the GP board responds seeking another missions agency, maybe an American one as my friends have suggested in the past, could be an option. Lastly, it's also possible for me to just be an independent missionary. Please pray for wisdom here.

Thank you for reading this update. I want to upgrade my partnership with you beyond this newsletter. Feel free to email me with any suggestions; and feel equally free to unsubscribe for any reason while we still remain friends. I'm amazed that two of my missionary friends are still supporting us financially on a monthly basis! I wish two other supporters would relieve them of this role soon.

Please:

  • Prayerfully consider making a pledge or donation for my added expenses as the field director for GH in 2015. I estimate an extra budget need of $7,000 this year for traveling and project expenses. You can donate online here but please let me know as well so I can plan well.

  • Consider making a financial donation to HelpLive to help us register as a legal nonprofit in Thailand (memo: HelpRegister); we need to keep $7,000 in the bank just to apply, and another $2-3000 for the whole application process.
